Heartbreak's a horrendous beast. It's a painfully universal human experience to have another side-swipe our world out of the blue, throwing it completely off its axis, elevating it to blissful new heights, crashing through limits, expanding horizons, ceaselessly inspiring, driving, nourishing...
...and then, suddenly, it all comes crashing down. One way or another, the connection shears, and with the loss of love we now come plunging into the murky waters of symbolic death.
As an immensely cherished, deeply entwined part of us atrophies and crumbles away, so too does our existential will. The mind descends into a maelstrom of self-questioning, hyper-analytical feedback loops amplified by oscillating flares at extreme ends of the emotional spectrum. Stars turn to dust; flames fade to embers -- those, to ashes; caressing tendrils harden into razor-sharp talons; once-warming rays of sunlight now cast eclipsing shadows as icy spikes pierce the heart; and, in the wake of the swirling chaos, the lush landscapes of our once-thriving world wither into a desolate wasteland where nothing grows.
Inspired in part by the recent, woefully familiar sorrows of a dear friend, this track resurrects the long-forgotten words I'd originally jotted down whilst going through the very same, some years back.

lyrics
It was so hard not to fall for you
But our time was finite, severed at the beginning
Circumstances wouldn't let me aim true
'Twas all illusion, but still the world kept spinning
Chasing spectres, drowning dreams
Discarding fantasies
Nostalgia sinks its dirty teeth in
Its putrid maw devouring me
What once breathed life has turned to death's wind
Our expired sun glows pale
Where you once stood, only a shadow remains
Become the vibrant fade
The roaring echoes of a shattered heart
A sound that rends the darkness
Ripples propagate, all resistance lost
As hope commits to egress
Call on internal immolation
I've rigged the timer to implode
Employ a fragile crystal vessel
To deliver the final payload
What once breathed life has turned to death's wind
Our expired sun glows pale
Where you once stood, only a shadow remains
Become the vibrant fade
We used to run through blooming fields
Nary a thought for the dragging anchor
When suddenly the chain pulled taut
Uprooting all the festering rancour
And then I heard the winds sigh
Clouds were moored within my skies
Obscuring your effulgence, and preserving
The frail wings of my Icarian flight
What once breathed life has turned to death's wind
Our expired sun glows pale
Where you once stood, only a shadow remains
Become the vibrant fade

This EP is superb. I did not expect the closing track to sound the way it does. Such an atmospheric and emotional sound, it really turns the rest of the EP up to eleven. zWarhead

I don't know what it is, but in DWTD's discography this record really stands out to me. Picking a favourite track is difficult because all of the songs sound incredible to me, but POISON is probably the most fresh and energetic song in my opinion. zWarhead
